Floral Explosion at Cannon Hall for Yorkshire Cancer Centre
A South Yorkshire flower festival is to raise money for a leading cancer centre, thanks to two dedicated fund-raisers.
Catherine Gledhill, from Huddersfield and Lynn Barghout from Guiseley are organising a Festival for Life, an Exposition of Floral Fantasy, from Friday June 19 – Sunday June 21 in the glorious surroundings of Cannon Hall Museum and Gardens, to raise funds for The Yorkshire Cancer Centre, based at St James’s Hospital in Leeds.
Forty innovative floral designs will be displayed in the magnificent hall and grounds, and demonstrations will be provided by three of Europe’s leading florists including; Fife-based Alison Bradley, a National Demonstrator for the National Association of Flower Arrangement Society (NAFAS), award-winning and Chelsea Medal Winner Sara Horne from Warwickshire and master florist, international tutor and demonstrator, Diny Blom, from Holland.
Throughout the day visitors will not only enjoy the modern displays in the grounds, but also the ‘Family for Life’ group, which includes 20 decorated wooden figures.
Speaking of the event, Catherine, also a National Demonstrator for the National Association of Flower Arrangement Society (NAFAS), said: “The festival really is one not to be missed. Members of the public can enjoy the twice-daily demonstrations from our talented florists and flower designers in the marquee, and also admire the designs throughout the hall and grounds and listen to Pennine Jazz, whilst enjoying a picnic and a glass of champagne. Unfortunately, cancer is something that can affect anyone, and this festival is our way of helping to raise not only awareness of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, but also the funds for it to continue its life-saving work.”
The Yorkshire Cancer Centre serves a catchment of 2.6 million people across Yorkshire. The Centre is aiming to raise £10million to boost clinical research, buy the latest generation of medical equipment and provide arts and garden projects to enhance the patient environment.
Catherine added:“We want as many people as possible to enjoy this spectacular event. We would ask that donations are given to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre – your help will really make a difference.”
And, as Father’s Day falls on the final day of the Festival, there will be something for all the family to enjoy.
A champagne bar, refreshment areas and shopping opportunities are available throughout the three days, as well as fabulous hand-made picnic hampers, available for purchase from the Cannon Hall Farm Shop for just £20.
A Gala preview evening is being held at the grounds on Thursday, June 18, offering the opportunity for members of the public to meet the guest celebrities, and enjoy the displays at their leisure. Entry by ticket only.
Festival for Life, an Exposition of Floral Fantasy is open to the public each day from 10am to 5pm, with the last admission at 4.15pm.
