Barnsley Museums are delighted to invite entries for a newly launched poetry competition ‘Hear My Voice’. We want to encourage as many people as possible to enter and to experiment with the style and type of writing you submit, from rhyming couplets to rap; we want to hear your voice.
We are thrilled that the judging panel will be led by The Mayor of Barnsley, Barnsley’s Poet Laureate Ian McMillan, and a representative from the Barnsley Trades Union Council. Winners will have an exciting opportunity to give a reading of their poem at a celebratory event during the first Hear My Voice Poetry Festival in March 2017, at which other prizes will be awarded.
The theme for this year’s competition is ‘Home’. We would like you to consider: ‘How would you describe your home town to a stranger in a foreign place?’ The competition opens on 17 June 2016 and closes at noon on 31 January 2017. This is a great opportunity for us to hear your voice – so pick up an entry form and get writing!
